House GOP takes legal action on Constitutionally-allowed motions
ST. PAUL — House Republicans filed a suit against Secretary of State Steve Simon based on his refusal to recognize filed motions from duly-elected House members as allowed under the Constitution.
Speaker-designate Lisa Demuth and Deputy Leader Harry Niska released the following statement:
"Secretary Simon is illegally obstructing our ability to compel absent members as specifically stated in the Constitution. Because he refuses to allow a motion on the House Floor to hold Democrats accountable, we are taking legal action to make sure it happens. Democrats are obstructing House business, and it needs to stop."
You can find the filed Petition, Memorandum, and Declaration here.
