DEMUTH CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE ACTION ON CCAP PROGRAM
ST. PAUL, MN — On Tuesday a KSTP report unveiled disturbing revelations regarding the state Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP). The investigation revealed that some of the top recipients of CCAP funds were cited for dozens of licensing violations while receiving millions in state funds, including one that had their conditional license status lifted in 2024.
The investigation also raised concerns that some of the state's largest CCAP recipients may be fraudulent, with no evidence of children or employees present during repeated visits despite receiving millions of dollars in CCAP funds for children purportedly currently enrolled in the program.
House Speaker-designate Lisa Demuth, R-Cold Spring, issued the following statement on the KSTP report.
"Concerns about fraud and lack of oversight for the childcare assistance program date all the way back to 2018, but it appears that problems remain rampant. Tonight's report suggests the Walz administration remains asleep at the wheel and is unable or unwilling to provide proper oversight to prevent fraud and protect the safety of our children. It's unacceptable that millions of our tax dollars are going to childcare centers that have dozens of unaddressed safety violations, and others that could be entirely fraudulent. We need an immediate investigation into these centers, and to pause payments to any no-show childcare center ripping off Minnesota taxpayers."
