Legislative Update
Friends and Neighbors,
Inauguration Day has arrived, and President Donald Trump has just taken the oath of office for his second term. I am hopeful and excited about the next four years of prosperity and growth under his leadership and the America First Agenda. With President Trump, JD Vance, his excellent Cabinet appointees, and Republican control of the U.S. House and Senate, the future looks bright. I look forward to working with the Trump Administration to advance the America First Agenda right here in Minnesota.
Last Tuesday, I was sworn into my second term as the 94th Legislative Session officially began. I am eager to roll up my sleeves and get to work for the people of Minnesota. During this legislative session, I have the privilege of serving on the following House committees:
- Environment and Natural Resources Finance and Policy
- Labor and Workforce Development Finance and Policy
- Rules and Legislative Administration
These committee assignments provide me with the opportunity to focus on making Minnesota more affordable by removing burdensome, unfunded mandates, and championing permitting reform. These reforms are essential for improving our state’s competitiveness and creating pathways for private-sector and industrial job growth that benefits Minnesota workers and families. For too long, the Walz administration's unaccountable and unresponsive government agencies have stifled new development and growth.
In addition, I am honored to share that Speaker of the House Lisa Demuth has appointed me as Deputy Speaker pro tempore, allowing me to preside over the House of Representatives in her absence.
While the first week of the 2025 Legislative Session brought great promise, it also had its challenges. The House Democrat Caucus has decided to boycott the legislative session, refusing to attend while continuing to receive their paychecks. This stems from their refusal to accept that Republicans outnumber Democrats 67 to 66—a situation caused by one Democrat candidate in Roseville violating residency laws during the 2024 election. Minnesotans expect their elected officials to show up, debate, and work together on the issues that matter most. I will continue to show up and fight for you!
This Wednesday, January 22, marks the Minnesota March for Life, held from noon to 1:00 PM on the steps of the State Capitol. The March begins at noon, followed by a short program at 12:30 PM. I am always inspired by the thousands of families who come together to stand up for the dignity and sanctity of every human life. After the program, our community members will gather inside the Capitol behind the Rotunda, and I hope to see you there.
Finally, we pause today to remember the life of Martin Luther King Jr. Here is my favorite of his many lasting quotes:
"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." – Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
I am honored to serve you and to fight for a more prosperous, more free, and more faith-filled Minnesota.
