Rep. Matt Bliss Begins 2025 Legislative Session Focused on Delivering Results for District 2B
St. PAUL, MN – The 2025 legislative session began Tuesday, and Rep. Matt Bliss (R-Pennington) is back at the Capitol, ready to tackle the pressing issues affecting District 2B residents. With a historic shift in the House and a renewed focus on bipartisan solutions, Bliss emphasized the importance of working collaboratively to address the needs of Minnesotans.
“We face a significant number of challenges impacting the everyday lives of District 2B residents, and I am eager to get down to business this session,” Bliss said. “One of my top priorities is eliminating wasteful government spending to provide Minnesotans with the permanent tax relief they deserve, instead of the tax increases they cannot afford. It’s clear from last year’s $10 billion tax hike—despite an $18 billion surplus—that one-party rule has failed our state. We need more balance and accountability in St. Paul.”
The opening day of the session saw Republicans elect Rep. Lisa Demuth as Speaker of the House, despite efforts by Democrats to block the session by not attending. House Republicans moved forward, ensuring the work of the people would not be delayed.
Bliss highlighted the Republican focus on six key policy pillars for the 2025 session:
-
Stop the Fraud: Tackle waste, fraud, and abuse in government programs to restore trust and accountability.
-
Make Minnesota Affordable: Enact policies to reduce costs for families and businesses.
-
Make Minnesota Safe: Support law enforcement and enhance public safety initiatives.
-
Raise Standards, Reduce Mandates: Improve educational outcomes while minimizing unnecessary regulations.
-
Minnesota Tax Dollars for Minnesotans: Ensure state funds directly benefit Minnesota residents.
-
Build for the Future: Invest in sustainable infrastructure to strengthen the state’s economy and communities.
“These pillars reflect the priorities of Minnesotans and will guide our work this session,” Bliss said. “We must focus on what matters most to Minnesotans: lowering costs, protecting communities, and restoring integrity in government programs.”
Before the session began, Bliss was appointed to the Higher Education Finance and Policy, Judiciary Finance and Policy, and Public Safety Finance and Policy Committees. He was also named chair of the Veterans and Military Affairs Division.
