Legislative Update
Friends and Neighbors,
As we begin December and the legislative session – which begins January 14th – inches closer, there are a host of issues to keep you up to date on.
A Clear Warning in Minnesota’s Budget Forecast
Minnesota Management and Budget released the budget and economic forecast which revealed a $616 Million balance for the FY26-27 biennium—a sharp $1.1 Billion decrease from earlier projections. While the budget remains stable for now, the long-term outlook points to a steep budget deficit of over $5 Billion for FY28-29. This financial strain is the direct result of reckless spending and mismanagement under Democrat control. Their unchecked agenda expanded government programs and funneled taxpayer dollars into wasteful initiatives while neglecting the core priorities of hardworking Minnesotans.
Over the last two years, Democrats used their complete control to impose massive tax hikes to the tune of $10 Billion after dramatically increasing government spending by over 36%, and expanding state bureaucracy with 3 new state agencies and over 2000 new state government employees —all at the expense of families and businesses. Frankly, the chickens have come home to roost on these poor decisions and it is past time to change course and stop the waste, fraud, and abuse of our tax dollars.
Now after the 2024 election has ended the complete Democrat control of St. Paul, Republicans are committed to restoring fiscal responsibility and accountability. We will work tirelessly to cut wasteful spending, streamline state government operations, and protect taxpayers from bearing the brunt of failed policies. As your Representative, I am determined to ensure that our financial future is built on principles of efficiency, transparency, and restraint. It’s time to put Minnesota families first and restore trust in how your tax dollars are managed.
Celebrating Progress in Foley
This week I had the privilege of attending the Foley Wastewater Project Celebration, marking a significant milestone for our community as the system came online in the last few weeks. This project represents years of hard work, collaboration, and a $29 Million investment to benefit future generations in Foley. During the last two years, I was grateful to have been a part of securing the final $7 Million of state support for the project. This is an excellent example of what we can achieve when state and local leaders come together with a shared vision. I'm excited to see how Foley will grow and prosper in the years ahead.
Supporting Minnesota’s Farmers
Right before Thanksgiving, I had the pleasure of attending the annual conventions of the Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation and the Minnesota Farmers Union. These gatherings highlighted the vital role agriculture plays in our state’s economy and culture. Farmers are the backbone of Minnesota, and I’m committed to supporting policies that strengthen rural communities, reduce burdensome regulations, and ensure the next generation of farmers has the tools to succeed.
Listening to Your Concerns
One of the most rewarding aspects of serving as your Representative is staying connected to the people and businesses that make our district thrive. Over the past week, I visited local schools including Cambridge-Isanti, attended the Rice Area Sportsman Club's Annual Meeting, and had meaningful conversations with constituents about their concerns and priorities. From education to workforce needs, charitable gaming, and the outdoors, these visits reaffirm the importance of advocating for policies that support families, students, and small businesses.
Upcoming Town Hall
As we close out the year, I remain focused on serving as a voice for our district’s values at the State Capitol. Whether it’s advocating for tax relief, supporting infrastructure projects, or addressing the concerns of farmers and small business owners, my commitment to you is unwavering. I encourage you to reach out and share your thoughts as we prepare for the upcoming historic legislative session as we navigate the 67-67 split House of Representatives.
In the spirit of this commitment, I will be hosting a town hall on Wednesday, December 11, to answer questions, hear concerns, and work with the members of our community on legislation you may want to see. The town hall will be at Milaca City Hall (244 1st Street E, Milaca, MN 56353) from 6:00-7:00 PM. Hope to see you there!
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with blessings and gratitude. Thank you for the privilege of representing you in St. Paul.
