Legislative Update
Dear Friends,
It was another week with lots of visitors and Days on the Hill. On Wednesday, I was glad to meet with IBEW, Teamsters, and the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association Constituents celebrating their Days on the Hill. Also, a special thanks to the teachers, parents, and students involved with STEM Day at the Capitol. A lot of great energy & intellect!

This week, I had the opportunity to attend the WW2 Round Table presentation at the Minnesota History Center which honored Women's History Month with a special program about the women veterans of the Women's Air Raid Defense (WARD). As an avid reader of WW2 history and an executive board member of the WW2 Round Table, I was mystified that I had not heard of these intrepid women of the WARD.
I am familiar with the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps, The U.S. Navy Women's Reserve (WAVES), the Women’s Auxiliary Ferrying Squadron (WAFS), the Women’s Flying Training Detachment (WFTD), Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP, the Pistol Packin' Mamas), the U.S. Coast Guard Women’s Reserve (SPARS), and the Marine Corps Women’s Reserve (MCWR). I even had the awesome opportunity to lead a program interviewing a female OSS agent which my daughters and their friends attended. Yet after almost 80 years, there is still new history to be revealed about the greatest conflagration in world history, won by our greatest generation.
I was thrilled to attend the Student Outreach (pictured left) and Main Program featuring author Karen Moore and her book, Gracie and the Radar Girls, a fascinating story about our patriotic women serving in the WARD.
Did you know over 350,000 American women volunteered to serve in uniform during WW2? There's a heck of a lot more to learn about our mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and sisters who served our nation honorably. Check out more fascinating history at the MN WW2 Roundtable's site.
I wish you all a Safe & Happy Easter!
