Legislative Update
I've been hearing from a lot of constituents about the nearly three-quarters of a billion dollars that will be spent renovating and expanding the State Office Building, which contains the offices of members of the MN House of Representatives. As you may have heard, the renovation will cost at least $730 million dollars and could go much higher than anticipated. As it is, just the interest on the renovation will cost almost as much as the entire State Capitol renovation cost just a few years ago.
In spite of a $17.5 billion surplus, Democrats raised taxes on Minnesota families by another $10 billion last session to pay for a 40% increase in government spending. Now, Minnesotans will be on the hook for a $730 million office building. This ignores the fact that while government spending is growing by 40%, family budgets are tight and the holidays are coming up fast.
Minnesotans don't want to spend this much money just to renovate an office building for politicians. This money should go towards much more important things, like tax relief for Minnesotans.
Norwood Young America Grant
I learned recently that Norwood Young America will receive a $900,000 grant from the Transportation Economic Development Infrastructure (TEDI) Program. This grant will go towards Phase 2 of the Tacoma West Industrial Park project. Congratulations to Norwood Young America for their hard work bringing home this important grant!
