Friends and Neighbors,
This week was filled with great visitors to brighten up a very busy week of legislative work. One of the highlights of working at the capitol is the wide variety of visitors and people you get to meet every day.
I had the pleasure of welcoming a group of middle school students at the state capitol. It was a joy to see their faces light up with excitement as they toured this beautiful building and learned about its history. I had a great time answering some of their questions and we even go a photo together in the rotunda.
Members from NFIB visited my office this week to discuss the paid family and medical leave bill that was heard on the house floor. They shared with me some of their concerns about the onerous mandates this will put on businesses. I agree that while the intent of this bill is good, the method in which it prescribes new regulations and mandates on all of our businesses is harmful to our job providers.
State Patrol Day was Wednesday, we talked and I thanked them for all the great work they do to keep us safe. Our police and peace officers have the very important job of ensuring our safety and security. They put their lives on the line every day to protect us, and we owe them a debt of gratitude for their great work. Let us all continue to show our support and appreciation for their dedication and service.
As the end of the legislative session approaches, there is no doubt that things can get quite hectic. Bills are being rushed through debate on the floor as Democrats try to wrap up their agenda before the session ends. It can be a very fluid process as negotiations take place behind closed doors to try to get legislation passed. There have been a number of instances this week the process has been completely ignored and the minority voice left out. I am disappointed in my colleagues on the other side of the aisle pushing their agenda in this way.
