Legislative Update
This week I had the pleasure of welcoming the Rippleside Elementary 6th grade class to our state's capitol for their field trip. I always enjoy when groups get to experience this place and all the history that is here. It was so wonderful to see their excitement as they toured the different areas of the capitol building and learned about how our government works. I hope that this experience will inspire them to become active and engaged citizens in the future.
The final version of the education omnibus bill came to the House floor after the conference committee completed its work. Unfortunately, it still fell vastly short of providing the support our students and teachers need. A laundry list of new mandates eats up any new investments we are providing to school districts. I sympathize with all of the educators who are concerned with this mountain of regulation they will soon need to navigate.
Graduation season is upon us. Congratulations to all of the 2023 graduates. I know of a number of graduation parties that starting the season off this weekend. Hopefully, you will be able to spend this weekend with the graduates in your family as they prepare to head off on the next season of their life.
