Legislative Update
Last night, House Democrats passed the most extreme abortion bill, which provided absolutely no guardrails to protect the health and safety of women and children. This legislation will put Minnesota’s abortion laws on par with only four other countries in the world, including North Korea and China.
HF 1 allows abortion without any guardrails to protect the health and safety of the mother, up until the moment of birth. House Republicans proposed numerous amendments to put commonsense protections in place, all of which were rejected by the DFL. These amendments included ensuring that abortions are done in safe and licensed facilities, because abortion clinics are currently unlicensed and uninspected, and protecting unborn children from third term abortions, with exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother.
This bill is far too extreme and out of step with most Minnesotans. I voted no.
