I hope you had a great Independence Day and your summer is going well! The good weather looks to continue this month so be sure to get out and enjoy! Local News

• Congratulations to our new police chief, Gordon Rohr. I wish him well!
• The Red Wing community gave thanks for Dean Massett— a former city administrator, county commissioner, and public servant—who died on the Fourth of July at 88 years old. Dean Massett was a friend of my dad and an amazing public servant. Condolences to his family and may he rest in peace. 
• Road Work on Hwy 58 in Red Wing began this week and will last until fall. See details and a map of the work here. 

  • Short-term delays may occur during some of the paving work. Motorists may also see short-term detours on some city blocks downtown. Hwy 58 is also called Bush and Plum streets in Red Wing. The project is expected to be completed by Oct. 29.

    Work to be conducted during the project includes:

    • ADA compliant pedestrian curb ramps
    • Pedestrian activated flashers at 13th and 17th streets
    • Curb extensions, also known as bump-outs, at 4th, 13th and 17th streets.
    • Removal of sidewalk heaving and tripping hazards
    • Drainage improvements
• Road Work on Hwy 52 -- Zumbrota to Cannon Falls also kicked off this week. 

  • Work will begin on the south end of the project near Zumbrota and crews will work north, building nine temporary crossover lanes on Hwy 52 to move traffic away from the work zone. This work will also include a small temporary intersection widening in the northeastern portion of 5th Street in Zumbrota at the entrance ramp to Hwy 52 northbound to move traffic away from the Hwy 60 West bridge replacement work. Bridge replacement work is anticipated to begin in late July or the first week of August.

    Motorists can expect temporary lane closures in these work zones.

Governor’s Workforce Development Board

This week, I attended the Alignment Summit put on by the Governor’s Workforce Development Board and state’s P20 Educational Partnership. The goal of the summit is to provide more alignment, coordination, and shared accountability across the workforce development system and Minnesota's education and training systems. 

Area Meetings 

This week, I attended the Cannon Falls Chamber breakfast as their guest speaker and provided an update on the Legislative Session and overview of the Budget. It was wonderful to see so many area business owners and community leaders in person once again!

I also met with Jeff Sampson, Superintendent of Cannon Falls schools, and we reviewed the educational funding in this session’s budget and discussed priorities for the Cannon Falls school district.

Finally, I met the new President of Minnesota State Southeast, Dr. Marsha Danielson. I am excited for her leadership and vision moving forward - lots of exciting opportunities!

Minnesota Job Skills Partnership RFP

The Minnesota Job Skills Partnership (MJSP) Board is soliciting applications for grant funding for new and incumbent worker training programs. MJSP will accept applications for the Partnership and Pathways Programs, Short Form and Pre-Development.

Request for Proposals

The deadline for the submission of regular applications is 4:30 p.m. CST on Monday, September 13, 2021. Short Form and Pre-Development applications must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. CST on Monday, October 4, 2021. No late proposals will be considered.

Proposals must be submitted as one file, including attachments, in a PDF format to Department of Employment and Economic Development, Business and Community Development Division, Minnesota Job Skills Partnership via email to deed.mjsp@state.mn.us.

Only proposals received by the deadlines posted above will be eligible for consideration at the Monday, October 25, 2021 MJSP Board meeting. No exceptions will be made in the event of technical issues or delays.
