Dear Friends and Neighbors,
On Wednesday, the legislature will finally finish the state budget avoiding a government shutdown on July 1. Many of these bills are extremely flawed but the major tax increases and radical policies pushed by House Democrats were defeated. The Taxes bill included PPP and UI tax relief for thousands of Minnesotans. The transportation bill also includes important funding for our community, more on that below.
Most importantly, we ended the Governor's Emergency Powers early Wednesday morning. This was long overdue and work is needed to reform Chapter 12 to make sure this abuse of power does not happen again. This will be a key focus of mine moving into next session.
I hope you have a great Independence Day Weekend and hope to see you around this summer!
Hwy 212 Funding Passes House
By a vote of 112-21, the Minnesota House has approved legislation that will fund Minnesota’s road and bridge needs for the next two years. I voted for the bill.
We were able to eliminate the $1.6 billion in tax hikes passed by House Democrats in their transportation bill during the 2021 regular session—while increasing the money put into roads and bridges across our state, which is great news for Minnesota’s drivers.
Among the important projects in the bill is funding for expanding Highway 212 from two lanes to four lanes in Carver County. I have been working to secure funding for the improvements on Highway 212 for years and this is a big win for our growing community—both for driver safety and the convenience of more lanes as our community grows.
