Mask Mandate Over!
Great News! On Thursday, Governor Walz announced the end of Minnesota’s statewide mask requirement, aligning Minnesota with new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance on face coverings. You can see the full release on my Facebook Page.
With this great news and the restrictions on businesses quickly coming to an end, this summer should be back to normal! Lets make it a great one!
No Budget, No PPP/UI - What are we even doing?
Monday is the final day of the regular session and, unfortunately, all the important issues are still left undone. This is the budget year – where the legislature sets the two-year budget so the state doesn't face a shutdown – and it remains completely unfinished.
Another sad victim of lawmaking by hostage-taking are small businesses and those who received unemployment during the pandemic. Hundreds of thousands of Minnesota businesses and workers have been staring at unexpected tax bills due to federal assistance during the pandemic. We were told for months that PPP and UI relief weren't urgent because of the tax extension. Well, the tax deadline is Monday and these important issues wont be fixed in time.
House Democrats clung to their tax increases and policy proposals and pushed us toward another legislative special session. The only thing we MUST do this year is pass the two-year budget. We also need to fix the one-time tax issues made by the pandemic relief in the forms of forgiven PPP loans and Unemployment Insurance —these Minnesotans are going to receive thousands in unexpected tax bills. All of this was left undone.
We are losing craft breweries and distilleries due to our outdated and nonsensical liquor laws, but fixing that was also left off the agenda of the Democrat House Majority.
Unfortunately, these important issues were set aside in order to spend hours on the floor last night talking about legalizing marijuana — something that has ZERO chance of becoming law this year.
Regardless of your feelings on the issue, it was a shameful waste of time and because the other issues have not been dealt with thousands of Minnesotans will be harmed. I highlighted these misplaced priorities on the floor last night.

Fishing Opener!
Today is the Walleye Fishing Opener — I'll be working at the Capitol but cannot wait to get out soon! Good luck to everyone out there this weekend, I am jealous!
Local Brewery Expands — to Wisconsin
I was joined by Minority Leader Kurt Daudt, Senator Michelle Benson, and Senator Karin Housley as we ventured across the border to New Richmond, Wisconsin for the opening of the new Lift Bridge Brewing Company Brewery & Tap Room— in Wisconsin.
This great Minnesota Brewery chose — or as Senator Housley correctly said—was forced to move across the border by our outdated liquor laws to continue growing their business.
This is no longer a hypothetical — Minnesota craft breweries and distilleries are picking up and leaving. This is not the first and it will continue until we update our antiquated liquor laws.
Contact your legislator and urge them to #FreeTheGrowler and support the #DrinkLocal updates to our liquor laws. We cannot continue to keep losing these great small businesses and economic activity.
