Legislative Update
Over the last few weeks, House Republicans have attempted to bring up bills giving tax relief to local businesses and unemployed Minnesotans, however the House DFL has blocked these bills each time they've come up. Many legislators on both sides of the aisle agree that these issues need to pass, however Democrats have said that instead of passing them immediately to give tax filers certainty and relief, they want to hold on to them and put them into massive omnibus bills that won't be passed until May.
With a large budget surplus and billions coming to Minnesota from the federal government, there is no reason to leave taxpayers in the lurch while Democrats push for even higher taxes. It is time to act with urgency on these issues, as the business tax filing deadline was weeks ago, and many Minnesotans are already filing their taxes. It is so disappointing that they continue to block forward progress on these issues, and I will continue to fight for tax relief.
Next week, the legislature will be in recess for Passover and Easter break, so I will not be sending a legislative update next Friday. I wish you all a wonderful Passover and a happy Easter, filled with loved ones and safe celebrations!
