Reopening Schools
Students and families are being devastated by distance learning — it's taking a toll on academic achievement, mental health, and more. Families from all walks of life— from the very wealthy to those struggling the most— have been harmed by this practice. A local author chronicled on Twitter her experience in a Zoom parents meeting with her State Senator in a wealthy Minnesota suburb. This thread was shared across the country and shows the damage distance learning is doing to our students and families.
This is at a time when the science and data show we can safely get our students back in the classroom — even President Biden's CDC director said multiple times last week that we can safely return to in-person learning before all teachers are vaccinated.
The proposal put forward by House Republicans last Thursday will prevent Gov. Walz from overreaching and keeping schools closed unilaterally. We trust our local school boards, administrators, parents, and teachers to work collaboratively and make decisions that are in the best interest of the district.
We've seen resistance from politicians and powerful special interest groups in other states who are blocking schools from reopening even when teachers are vaccinated. We can't let that happen here, that's why we need to pass our proposal and trust our local districts to make decisions at the local level.

Low Income Heating Assistance
A quick reminder that with the frigid cold here, I want to remind people with limited funds that they don’t have to choose between paying the heating bill or buying groceries.
The Low Income Energy Assistance Program serves both renters and homeowners, providing financial assistance to pay past due energy bills to avoid disconnection, to purchase emergency fuel, or to repair or replace a homeowner’s malfunctioning furnace.
The application period is open until May 31. To determine eligibility or to learn more about the Low Income Energy Assistance Program, visit: mn.gov/commerce/eap.jsp.
