Vaccine Update from MDH
The Minnesota Department of Health shared the following information this week. It gives some insight into the new updated process and criteria for the next steps.
More than 35,000 Minnesotans age 65+ will have access to COVID-19 vaccines at over 100 clinics, hospitals, state community vaccination sites, and other locations across the state this week. We have also launched an online vaccine finder to better connect Minnesotans age 65+ to vaccination opportunities.
With an increased vaccine supply and after a successful two-week pilot to test of community vaccination clinics, we are building on Minnesota’s strengths and activating an all-of-the-above approach for vaccine distribution.
More Doses than Ever to Our Seniors – More than 35,000 Minnesotans age 65+ will have access to COVID-19 vaccines this week at over 100 clinics, hospitals, state community vaccination sites, and other locations across the state. Seniors will be able to get vaccinated through local providers in communities near where they live.
NEW: Connecting eligible Minnesotans to their local healthcare providers – A new online vaccine locator map launched today will help Minnesotans more easily find and connect with local vaccine providers in their area. This map will grow as the federal government gives us more vaccine and more providers are able to administer doses.
NEW: Permanent State-Run Community Vaccination Clinics – This week we are establishing permanent state-run community vaccination clinics in Duluth and Minneapolis, as well as a site in southern Minnesota that will launch next week. Additional state community vaccine sites may launch soon. These permanent sites will build on the lessons learned and expand access to the vaccine on a more sustainable basis.
At this time, these sites will both serve Minnesotans 65+, and the Minneapolis location will also serve E-12 educators and staff, and childcare professionals. These sites will continue to vaccinate 65+ Minnesotans with the same number of doses as the pilot sites in previous weeks.
Community Vaccination Clinic 65+ Appointments – The Minnesotans 65 and older who pre-registered for an appointment at the pilot locations but did not receive one last week are still eligible to get an appointment. This week, Minnesotans who have not been selected for a vaccine from the pre-registration list will remain on the list and continue to have the opportunity to be randomly selected to schedule an appointment at Minnesota’s COVID-19 community vaccination sites. Minnesotans on the registration list will be notified if are randomly selected to make an appointment.
E-12 Education and Child Care – Education and child care staff will also have the opportunity to receive the vaccine this week at the State vaccination site in Minneapolis, as well as 35 county local public health clinics spread out throughout the entire state. Pharmacies in Brainerd, St. Cloud, and Rochester are also providing shots to education and childcare personnel.
Staff in education and child care settings will be contacted directly if selected to sign up for appointments vaccine at state site or community pharmacy this week. Local public health departments will partner directly with school and child care programs in their communities.
