Gov. Walz Budget Proposal
On Tuesday, Gov. Tim Walz released his 2021-2022 budget proposal. Gov. Walz is proposing a 10% income tax increase, a 15% hike to Minnesota's business tax, and regressive tax hikes on cigarettes and vaping products that disproportionately hit low-income Minnesotans. The Governor is proposing just .3% in cuts ($150 million) out of a $52+ billion budget.
The budget proposal by the governor is not a serious attempt to reach a bipartisan budget necessary to pass a divided government. Minnesota families and businesses have been hurting, through no fault of their own, and instead of using reserves and government belt-tightening to balance the budget, Governor Walz wants to raise taxes on hardworking Minnesotans.
"A budget proposal that cuts basically no spending and instead raises taxes on individuals and businesses by 10 and 15 percent respectively, is a complete non-starter. Minnesotans know better and deserve a more serious proposal by their governor."
Lawmakers and the Governor must pass a new two-year budget by June 30 to avoid a state government shutdown.

Under Gov. Walz's budget proposal, Minnesota would vault to NUMBER THREE IN THE NATION for highest income tax rates behind only the ultra-liberal states of Hawaii and California.

Last week 29 House Democrats signed onto a letter supporting President Biden's decision to kill 11,000 jobs and stop the Keystone XL Pipeline. Now today, three Minnesota Democrats are publicly calling on him to cancel the Line 3 pipeline.
The Line 3 Replacement Project is incredibly important to our community and our state as a whole. It means billions in private investment, thousands of good paying union jobs, and is the safest way to move oil to market. Minnesota Democrats who signed on to this should be ashamed of themselves and need to stop playing political games with this important project.
