Legislative Update
COVID Vaccine Pilot Site
On Monday, the Minnesota Department of Health announced a new community COVID-19 vaccine program that partners with local public health and school districts at nine locations across the state—including a location in St. Cloud. The pilot sites will initially serve adults aged 65 and older, Pre-K through Grade 12 teachers and school staff, and staff working at licensed and certified child care programs.
This pilot site is great news for St. Cloud and surrounding communities as we work to deliver the vaccine to vulnerable Minnesotans, teachers, and childcare providers. This is a great next step to safely reopening our schools and protecting vulnerable Minnesotans. I encourage anyone who wishes to receive the vaccine and is eligible for this pilot site to sign up.
Below is information on how to sign up to receive a vaccine:
Appointments can be made exclusively via phone or online. Beginning today (Tuesday) at noon, Minnesotans aged 65 and older can schedule an appointment by calling (612) 426-7230 or (833) 431-2053, or by visiting https://mn.gov/vaccine/.
Everyone MUST have an appointment; no walk-ins will be accepted. This will be strictly enforced; no-show replacements will be filled from the waitlist only – not from people who just show up at a site. You can put yourself on the waitlist either through the call center or at the aforementioned website. There is a separate waitlist for each pilot site around MN.
Unfortunately, the Governor has struggled to distribute vaccines delivered by the federal government to Minnesota. As of today, our state is last in the Midwest for percent of our supply used. Despite months of planning, the governor has made abrupt announcements about these vaccine sites with less than one day's notice, and no outreach to legislators. Once they went live, both the website and the phone line crashed. These vaccines can mean the difference between life and death for many Minnesotans - the administration must do better.
Committee Meetings Continue
We continue to hear overviews of various state departments and agencies in committee meetings, and some committees have begun hearing bills. As committees ramp up and the budget session gets into full swing, I would encourage you to contact me with any questions or comments about issues before the Legislature.
