Dear Neighbors,
The governor has once again extended his emergency powers, so the Legislature has begun another special session. Special session started Monday, with negotiations ongoing on things like bonding, taxes, public safety, and supplemental budget spending.
On Tuesday, we had another vote on whether the governor can continue his expanded peacetime emergency powers. It has now been nearly 130 days since the Governor declared this peacetime emergency.
Both the House and Senate have voted multiple times on whether to end the peacetime emergency. This would allow the branch of government closest to the people of Minnesota to have a voice in how the state responds to the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, House Democrats blocked the resolution yet again, and the governor keeps his expanded executive powers for at least another month.
Due to a 60-day post-session rule, this will be my last legislative update until November.
