Special Session Update
The governor has once again extended his emergency powers, so we were called back into special session this week. Session began Monday and will run at least a week, as negotiations continue on things like bonding, taxes, and public safety issues.
On Tuesday, we had another vote on whether the governor should keep his expanded peacetime emergency powers. The day special session began was the 122nd day of this current peacetime emergency. Both the House and Senate have voted numerous times on whether to end the peacetime emergency and restore the Legislature as a co-equal branch of government, allowing the branch of government closest to the people of Minnesota to have a voice in how we respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, House Democrats once again voted it down, and the governor will keep his expanded powers for another month.
Due to a 60-day post-session rule, this will be my last legislative update until November. If you want to stay updated on the latest information about legislative sessions, I would encourage you to check out my official Facebook page.
