Dear Friends,
We've been back in session for about a month now and despite the state budget being set, a $1.5 billion surplus, and the rainy day fund being at record levels, House Democrats have not yet even hinted at returning any of that surplus to Minnesota taxpayers.
That's why myself and other House Republicans took the lead and brought forward a number of common-sense tax relief proposals to benefit all Minnesotans that should garner bipartisan support. Senate Republicans have also proposed around a billion dollars in tax relief. You can watch our press conference introducing the proposals here.
Minnesota families deserve to get some of their hard-earned money back. We are bringing forward a tax relief package that will cut taxes for every Minnesotan, and targets additional relief for seniors, farmers, homeowners, Main Street businesses, college graduates with student loan debt, and families with kids in childcare.

Democrats Push $2B Tax Increase
Last week, House Democrats brought a $2 billion tax hike the floor to create a new government benefit program—that one program, with it's almost 400 new full time employees, would require more employees than the Department of Commerce, MNsure, and even MMB which manages the entire state budget. Watch my speech on this disastrous bill.

COVID-19 or Coronavirus Response
Last week, I joined legislative leaders at a Minnesota Department of Health briefing on the coronavirus.
The biggest pieces of advice: wash your hands, and stay home if you feel under the weather.
On Monday, I helped to negotiate the appropriation of $21 million in funding to fight coronavirus in Minnesota. It passed both the House & Senate unanimously.

Meeting with Constituents
It was great to visit with Greg and Donna Gulden from Nowthen during the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus day on the hill!

Defending the Second Amendment
Unsurprisingly, House Democrats brought both of their gun grabbing bills to the House Floor and used their majority to pass both bills — without a single Republican vote and with bipartisan opposition.
Here's my full speech to close out the debate over the universal background check bill — I voted no on both Democrat gun bills because they infringe on our Second Amendment rights, and won't stop criminals who don't follow the law to begin with.
Democrats won't admit what we all know: their gun control bill won't stop criminals because criminals don't follow the law to begin with. These bills will only infringe on the rights of law-abiding citizens.
I have always been a strong defender of the Second Amendment and that's why i voted no on both of these awful bills. As Speaker, I forced Gov. Dayton to sign five PRO-GUN bills into law that expanded Second Amendment rights in Minnesota.
The sad reality is that Minnesota Democrats have taken the extreme, anti-Second Amendment position of their most liberal members and are trying to make it law. I am grateful that Senate Republicans will stop these radical proposals from becoming law.
