Friends,
I hope you are having a wonderful start to fall and are ready to watch the Twins beat the Yankees this weekend! Below is a quick update of what's been going on. Have a great weekend!
More Problems at DHS
A federal audit found the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) paid out $3.7 million in benefits between 2014 -2016 to dead people. This happened because DHS could not sufficiently and accurately record death certificates.
We need a full audit of DHS. The funds that are being wasted are designed to help the most vulnerable Minnesotans. Every dollar wasted is not only an insult to taxpayers but also is a dollar not going to help the people who truly need it. Just since the 2019 Legislative Session ended in May, we have seen $80 million wasted or mismanaged by DHS. This is simply unacceptable.

Farmer Tax Fix
A bad tax law approved by House Democrats and signed into law by Governor Walz last session is now costing farmers thousands of dollars.
Specifically, farmers and other business owners who traded equipment are having that trade value counted as income and can likely expect a bill from the Department of Revenue, and it won’t be cheap.
We are hearing from farmers who are in shock by the amount they will owe come tax time. House Republicans warned people during the last session that the lack of conformity was going to be a real problem and now, unfortunately, those concerns are coming back to bite farmers and small business owners.
A bill to fix this mess is currently being prepared and I will be working with my colleagues to address this on DAY ONE of the 2020 Session.
