Dear Neighbors,
I hope you’re staying safe and cool in this summer heat. Hennepin County has an interactive map of locations for the public to cool off when the temps get this high, and I encourage you to check out this resource.
I also want to thank everyone who came out for our District 59 Town Hall last week. We had great conversations with neighbors - I remain so incredibly proud to represent such a well-informed and dedicated community.

We covered a whole host of important issues, including the new laws that were enacted this month. Highlights include anonymous threat reporting systems for our schools so students and families can safely report concerning behavior, implementing a mandatory social media mental health warning, the investments I secured for local infrastructure improvements, and more. You can find a full list of the new laws and summaries here.

Another important topic of discussion was our legislative solution to save HCMC. This was an issue I led on, and I was happy to walk our neighbors through this solution and what it means for Minnesota’s premiere Level I Trauma Center. The need to save HCMC was important for the entire state, but with the hospital right in our community, it was especially important for our neighbors to know that we’re taking steps to ensure HCMC remains a trusted medical facility for years to come.

Every Mother Counts
This week, I joined Every Mother Counts for their panel on maternal health and policy. While Minnesota has one of the lowest statewide maternal mortality rates in the country, troubling racial disparities continue to exist in our state. Policy can help address that. As a member of the Legislature’s Black Maternal Health Caucus, I’m fighting to close these racial gaps in maternal care and build a Minnesota where every mom feels safe and heard.
It was an honor to join these women to discuss this crucial topic and how we can work towards solutions together.

Staying Connected & A Pause In Newsletters
During an election year, from mid-July until Election Day, incumbent legislators are not allowed to send unsolicited communications. This is to ensure no unfair advantage is given to those who already hold elected office, and as such, this will likely be the last newsletter you receive from my office until November.
