Dear Neighbors,
This has been an incredibly busy week at the legislature. With a finite amount of days to accomplish our work this year, we’ve set today as a deadline for bills to be heard by a committee in order to become law. This deadline doesn’t apply to all bills - like our work in the Capital Investment Committee - but to the majority of legislation we’ll eventually pass this year.
Our first hearing in the Capital Investment Committee this week didn’t have any legislators presenting bills at all, but we did have several presentations from state agencies on requests to fund their projects, including an unconventional testifier:

Leia, a de-scented skunk, was here to advocate for the Minnesota Zoo and its $45 million capital funding request. You can read more about their presentation to our committee here.
After this week, we’ll be entering the next phase of the legislative session, where we’ll begin passing more legislation off the House Floor. I look forward to updating you then on the bills we pass.
Property Tax Refund
This tax season, keep in mind that we made some significant updates to Minnesota’s tax system last year, making it the most equitable in the country. If you are a Minnesota homeowner or renter, you may qualify for a Property Tax Refund. The refund provides property tax relief depending on your income and property taxes. Learn more here.
