Neighbors,
The 2024 legislative session convened at noon on Monday. This non-budget year will focus on passage of the Capital Investment, or Bonding Bill. This measure helps fund infrastructure improvements around the state.
I chair the Minnesota House Veterans and Military Affairs Finance and Policy Committee. Our first meeting of the session is next Monday, and among other agenda items is an overview of Department of Military Affairs session priorities.
I want to remind you about Minnesota’s “cold weather rule” now in effect, which protects residents from having their electric or natural gas service shut off between October 1 and April 30. More information is available on the Minnesota Department of Commerce’s website.
It is tax filing time, and you may be eligible for a Child Tax Credit of $1,750 per qualifying child, with no limit on the number of children claimed. Learn more about income requirements and qualifications on the Child Tax Credit webpage. You can also learn more at the Minnesota Department of Revenue website here.
It is easy to stay in touch with State Capitol activities. The Minnesota House of Representatives Public Information Services offers nonpartisan recaps of high-profile bills, committee hearings, and floor sessions with their Session Daily publication. Subscribe to receive these here. To track bills of interest through the legislative process, I encourage you to utilize the MyBills feature on the Minnesota House of Representatives’ website.
Please continue to reach out with any input, ideas, or feedback about the issues important to you. I value hearing from you, so please don’t hesitate to call or email me any time. You can find my information on my House website. Also, make sure to ‘like’ my Facebook page.
It is an honor to represent you at the State Capitol.
Sincerely,
Jerry Newton
State Representative
