Neighbors,
The 2023 legislative session adjourned in May and many of the laws passed are set to go into effect on July 1. New laws include increases in funding for agriculture, education, renewable energy, public safety, and elections. Among the new laws taking effect are free school breakfast and lunch for all K-12 students, protecting healthcare workers against violence, limits on no-knock warrants, funding for rural broadband, free college tuition for income-eligible students, and more.
The goal of House DFLers this session was to build a state where everyone can thrive and succeed. We listened to you and your priorities and Minnesota will be a better place to live and work because of your input. There is so much to celebrate in our area all year, but our summer celebrations are special. I hope you can take part in the Rochester 4th Fest, which takes place from 6 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. at Soldiers Field Park. For more information and a schedule of events, go to the City of Rochester website. Make sure to stay for the fireworks!
During the legislative interim, please continue to reach out with any input, ideas, or feedback about the issues important to you. I value hearing from you, so call or email any time. You can find my information on my House website. You can also like my Facebook page, and follow me on Twitter.
It is an honor to represent you at the State Capitol.
Sincerely,
Kim Hicks
State Representative
