Construction begins

Construction will begin on County Road 101 in Minnetonka on April 20 from County Road 62 (Town Line Road) to Hutchins Drive. Improvements will be made along the stretch of County Road 101 as well as some city streets as part of this project.

The road is being reconstructed to improve the overall structure, to change crossings to increase safety for bicyclists and pedestrians, and to add turn lanes at key locations to reduce accidents and improve capacity. Pavement and drainage systems will also be improved and above ground utility lines will be buried. There will be a sidewalk on the west side of the road and a multi-use trail on the east side.

City streets are also being updated

The local city streets that are also being reconstructed as part of this project include Covington Terrace, Covington Road (east of County Road 101), Covington Lane, Kathleen Drive, Conifer Trail, Tracy Lynn Terrace, Jennifer Lane, Spring Lane, and Old Excelsior Boulevard.

Detours

Next week, the contractor will begin temporarily widening the road so that traffic can be moved to the west side of the road and reconstruction can begin on the east, or north bound side of the road. The trail on the west side of the road will be closed south of Michaele Lane.

The road should remain open during most of the project with some restrictions. There will be a temporary closure at the south end of the project to do some sewer and culvert work. This closure is tentatively scheduled for July 2015 and should last three to four weeks. A short detour will be provided during the temporary closure. Access to local residents and businesses will be maintained.
