The Corcoran Neighborhood Organization is hosting a community meeting to talk about proposed plans to redevelop the 2225 East Lake Street property that currently houses the School District’s adult education center and the Midtown Farmers’ Market.
Hennepin County will propose a multi-phase plan to redevelop the 6.4 acre property to include a Family Service Center along with new offices, retail, housing, parking, and space for the farmers' market.
Join Hennepin County at the meeting on Thursday to learn more and ask questions about the proposals. Childcare, Spanish interpretation, and light refreshments will be provided.
Construction will begin mid-April (weather permitting) on intersection improvements for walkers, bicyclists, and persons with disabilities along Hiawatha Avenue (Highway 55).
Expect to see new curb extensions, median and crosswalk improvements, and ADA enhancements at 32nd, 38th, 42nd, and 46th Streets. There may be some impacts for walkers, bikers, and drivers during the construction.
Making it safer, easier, and more comfortable to cross Hiawatha Avenue was identified as a community priority in the Minnehaha-Hiawatha Community Works Investment Framework. The intersection improvements are funded by the county, city, and state.
Construction should be completed mid-summer. For updates from now until completion visit the project webpage.

The
reconstruction of Minnehaha Avenue is planned to start in spring 2015 and
finish in fall 2016. Hennepin County will
spend much of 2014 developing the construction documents for the project.
This
work will include the staging plans for the project, which identify how
access will be maintained in the area during construction. One goal of the staging plan will be to
maintain two-way traffic on the roadway. Parking may be restricted in the areas under construction.
Construction
will occur in sections 4 to 8 blocks long. The work will likely start in the 38th Street to 46th Street section
during 2015 to best coordinate with other City of Minneapolis and Metro Transit
projects in the area. The Lake Street to
38th Street section would be completed in 2016.

It is no secret to
anyone driving on Minnesota roads that the extreme weather has made this an exceptional year for
potholes.
“We have seen an increase in service calls this year about
potholes,” said Brian Langseth from the public works department. “Our crews are
filling more potholes than they have for the last few years.”
To combat the increase in the quantity and severity of the
pothole problem, county crews are working Monday through Saturday to patch as
many of the troubled areas as possible.
If you see a problem area on a county road, please submit a pothole report.
The City of Minneapolis is offering grants up to $15,000 through its One Minneapolis Fund to non-profit community and cultural organizations to help promote diverse leadership and community engagement among cultural communities in the city. The application deadline is April 7. See the request for proposal.
