Creating Permanency for Foster and Kinship Families with Tina Feigal, M.S., Ed. in Minneapolis
This training is part of an ongoing collaboration with Hennepin County, Lutheran Social Service, Children’s Home Society and Raising Relative’s Children a program at LSS
Presentation:
1. Join author and parent coach Tina Feigal as she discusses the typical barriers to permanency for foster children. Tina knows that when foster placements and adoptions fail, it is often due to the child’s challenging behaviors, which often becomes unmanageable.
2. This training identifies why the typical responses of medication, respite, therapy and displacement often feel unsatisfactory by offering real-life techniques that help create solutions to permanency. This includes:
· Understanding that behaviors are formed in relationships, and are best healed in relationships
· Bolstering ongoing support for parents and children with challenging behaviors
· Building a bridge that promotes healing and engagement for the hurt child
Tina Fegial, M.S., Ed. Is the Director of Family Engagement at Anu Family Services/Center for the Challenging Child. A former school psychologist, a grandmother, and mother to three wonderful sons, Tina’s passion is bringing peace into homes and schools by helping adults heal challenging behaviors with specific, highly effective “Present Moment Parenting and Teaching”. Since 2000, she has operated her business, The Center for the Challenging Child, now a branch of Anu Family Services. As a coach and trainer, Tina supports adults in applying the techniques in her books, The Pocket Coach for Parents and The Pocket Teacher Coach. Tina shares part of her vision that every adult who wants a parent coach can pick up the phone and find one! Tina has been featured as the Minneapolis Star Tribune and KARE 11’s Extra’s “Supernanny”. In addition to her own blog Kristen is the editor of ShePosts, an online magazine dedicated to women in social media. She is also a regular contributor to Disney’s parenting site Babble, as well as to Huffington Post and OC Family Magazine. Kristen has made numerous television appearances to talk about parenting issues, including CNN, The View, The Ricki Lake Show, Good Morning America, and The Today Show. In the spring of 2010, Kristen lost her long and passionate battle against the minivan. It now sits in her driveway covered in crushed cheerios and remnants of her self-esteem. ~ Micha Boyett, Patheos.com
