Pre-construction tree removals on Mill Street

Starting this week, you’ll see Hennepin County crews removing trees in preparation for the upcoming Mill Street (County Road 82) pathway project in Excelsior, Shorewood, and Chanhassen. We will be working on Mill Street from 2nd Street in downtown Excelsior to Holly Lane and will only remove trees necessary to complete this project.

  • We strive to preserve trees wherever possible and schedule these tree removals in late winter and early spring to minimize harm to plants and animals.
  • Most of these trees are located within the right-of-way, which means we should not be on people’s personal property. We have been in contact with those property owners who may be adjacent to the right-of-way where we need to work or if we need to be on their property.
  • You should expect shoulder closures, temporary lane closures and see flaggers to help direct drivers and people who walk, bike, and roll around the work.

You’ll also see several private utility crews at work following tree removals. Utility work is not done by Hennepin County. Instead power, gas, telecom, phone, and cable service providers temporarily close lanes to safely relocate their lines in advance of road construction. For information about utility work, contact the service provider directly.

Construction for this project is scheduled to begin as early as May, weather permitting.
