News advisory: Groundbreaking for Southdale Library and Edina Art Center today

Hennepin County to break ground on new regional library and art center in Edina.

 

When 

  • Friday, October 3, 2025  
  • 2-3 p.m., with remarks beginning at 2:30 p.m.  

Where 

  • 7001 York Avenue South, Edina, MN 55435 
  • Located near the intersection of York Avenue South and West 70th Street. Parking available on-site. York Avenue (southbound) is closed, so please allow extra time for your arrival.  

What 

  • Hennepin County will host a ceremonial groundbreaking to mark the start of construction on the new Southdale Library and Edina Art Center. Reporters can capture remarks from county leaders and speak with project stakeholders.  

Who 

Speakers will include:  

  • Hennepin County Commissioners  
  • Hennepin County Library Leadership  
  • City of Edina Officials 

The project will transform the site into a regional destination for learning, creativity and community connection. The design emphasizes sustainability, native landscaping and community engagement. Once complete, the new, state-of-the-art facility will feature a modern library, dedicated art gallery and studio spaces and a trailhead connecting to the Nine Mile Creek Trail.
