Wondering what the difference is between Hennepin Health and Hennepin Healthcare? It’s easy to confuse the two, because the names are similar.
In a nutshell, Hennepin Health is an insurance plan and Hennepin Healthcare provides health care to patients. We are separate organizations with different purposes. What does that mean, exactly?
Hennepin Health provides insurance that helps you pay for medical care and services like doctor visits, hospital stays, mental and behavioral health care, and medications.
In contrast, Hennepin Healthcare delivers medical care to patients. They are a health care system with a hospital, a trauma center, and a network of clinics. They also offer psychiatric services, home care, emergency medical services, and more. Doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals work at Hennepin Healthcare.

One of the most important ways you can help keep your children healthy is by getting them immunized. This is also called getting shots or vaccinations.
Immunized children stay healthier and help prevent the spread of diseases to others. Vaccinations strengthen children’s immune systems, so they can fight infections better. This helps protect them from serious preventable diseases like measles, mumps, pertussis, and diphtheria. These diseases can cause severe health issues or even be life-threatening.

Car crashes are a leading cause of death for children. At Hennepin Health, we want children to ride safely. Members can receive a free car seat or booster for babies and children (up to 8 years old) after completing a free car seat class. Free car seats are provided by Milk Moms and Everyday Miracles. Details about car seat program.
It’s important to be aware that Minnesota law requires children riding in a motor vehicle to be in a car seat up to their eighth birthday or until the child reaches 4 feet, 9 inches tall.
For people with diabetes, action plans are important. So, what is a diabetes action plan? It’s a plan to help you manage the things that may be hard to fit into your daily routine, like testing your blood sugar and watching your weight. Creating a diabetes action plan can help you set goals, manage day-to-day tasks, and prepare for unexpected illness.
Check out this video from the Healthwise® Knowledgebase to learn how to make a diabetes action plan.

Most persons assigned female at birth should have a mammogram every two years starting at age 40 or as recommended by their health care provider. Those who have family members with breast or ovarian cancer may need to start breast cancer screening sooner.
The most common screening test for breast cancer is a mammogram. A mammogram takes pictures of the inside of a person’s breast. Hennepin Health members (age 40-74) can earn a $50 gift card for completing a mammogram. After your screening, submit a mammogram screening voucher.
Ask your provider which mammogram type is best for you
- 2D mammograms: provide a basic, flat image of the breast, which can sometimes make it difficult to see small abnormalities, particularly in dense breasts
- 3D mammograms:
- Use X-ray technology to create a 3D picture of the breast
- Involve taking several X-rays of each breast as the machine moves in an arc
- May find more cancers than traditional 2D mammograms and reduce the number of false positives
To find mammogram providers, check out our Hennepin Health provider directory or call Hennepin Health Member Services at 612-596-1036 (TTY 711), Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
