We’re excited to help you be part of the solution to create a world with less plastic. During the challenge, which runs February 1 to 28, we will be sending three short emails per week to provide you with resources.
Before we get started, here are some tips for selecting actions to make the most of your experience. See how to get started with the online Plastic-Free Challenge (PDF) for steps to take before the challenge starts on February 1.
You can also continue to encourage others to join! See the resources section for tips and materials to help with outreach.
How the actions are set up
For this Plastic-Free Challenge, you have more than 80 actions to choose from in eight categories. Let’s take a look at how the actions are set up:
-
Action title: This is the action
-
Description: This tells you more about what you would commit to doing to complete the action. Some actions include a spot for you to add a quantity to tailor the action when you select it.
-
Learn more: Click this button to see additional external resources related to the action.
-
Select: Click this button to select (or deselect) an action. You can change your mind throughout the challenge, just know you will lose any impact made from deselected actions after the challenge starts.
-
Daily or one-time action: This describes the frequency of the action. One-time actions are investments or changes you commit to making long-term, while daily actions are choices you make more often – it could be every day, every few days, or a few times during the challenge – to build habits.
-
Challenge level: This is a difficulty rating of the action and is represented by the bars at the bottom of an action. Learner is easiest, Pro is in the middle, and Leader is most advanced.

How to choose your actions
Browse through the categories (At Home, Food, On-the-go, etc.) to check off the actions you already take and filter the actions in each category by difficulty or frequency to find the ones that would be the most realistic and impactful for your family.
You can select up to five daily actions and five one-time actions to work on during the challenge.
Have you completed this challenge before? Recommit to actions that you may have stopped doing, select something you didn’t try last year, or take a step up in leadership as a team captain! You can recruit others and provide advice based off your past experience.
Enjoy the ride!
We know that change can be both challenging and fun, and we encourage you to embrace your journey. Creating change is steady work, but simple, everyday actions made by many people can add up to big impacts and a better future.
We are excited to invite Plastic-Free Challenge participants to attend these upcoming events. Find a list of all events here.
