Documentary: Invisible People highlights the county's housing work
 The documentary, produced by the national nonprofit Invisible People, showcases Hennepin’s successful systems to end homelessness through the firsthand stories of county residents and staff as they navigate the difficult road to safe, affordable housing.
Whittier housing development revitalizes old building, makes way for new opportunities
 A new affordable housing development in Minneapolis’ Whittier neighborhood will provide housing for 85 families with extremely low incomes, and all will have rental assistance. The development, funded in part by the county and developed by CommonBond, is half new construction and half preservation.
School to Housing program hits one year mark
 For the past year, the county’s School to Housing program has been working directly with schools to help families struggling with housing stability get access to critical supports.
County awards nine nonprofits with funds to repair and grow their housing stock
On December 12, the county’s Board of Commissioners approved nine awards to local nonprofit affordable housing owners that will help restore and boost their capacity to develop more affordable housing. Totaling $17.3 million, the awards are funded from Local Affordable Housing Aid (LAHA) revenues under the one-time Repair + Grow Program. Read more about the program on our webpage
Apply now: coordinated affordable housing development request for proposals (RFP)
The 2025 Hennepin County coordinated affordable housing development RFP was released early this year, on December 13. Proposers will have more time to apply than in prior years. As usual, both multifamily rental and homeownership development projects are eligible to apply. Learn more on the coordinated affordable housing development RFP webpage.
A big year for lead prevention
The county launched its lead prevention program 20 years ago, but 2024 was one of its biggest years yet. This year, 236 homes were improved through health and safety repairs, including removing lead hazards. It’s all made possible by the healthy homes and lead risk assessor team. Heading Home Hennepin annual meeting
Hennepin County recently hosted the annual Heading Home Hennepin meeting. This year, the event was planned by the Hennepin County Lived Experience Advisory Group (LEAG). We thank them for all their time and effort to bring the gathering together! The 2024 theme was solutions—a focus on both innovative and time-tested ways that our community is responding to homelessness.
Warming and daytime drop-in centers now open
The temperatures are dropping, which means that county-provided warming and daytime drop-in centers are open. Warming center options are available during the day overnight hours. For a full list and to learn more about how to get access, visit our webpage.
Building community in NE Minneapolis' Arts District
The Northrup King Building is home to the most artist studios in Minnesota. Now, it will see the addition of new affordable units for artists, increasing access to emerging artists, entrepreneurs of color, and cultural organizations. The county made significant investments in NKB Lofts, the developer, awarding it more than $1.8 million from a variety of funding sources.
