Hennepin County invites Twin Cities media to a preview tour of the newly renovated Sumner Library on November 13, 2024, from 12:15–1:15 p.m. The preview tour will include a guided walk-through and interview availability with Hennepin County Library Director Scott Duimstra.
Sumner Library has been closed for 12 months and is scheduled to reopen to the public on November 19, 2024. The $6.9 million project protected historic features, created additional meeting space, refreshed areas for youth, and completed general interior and exterior renovations.
This landmark Carnegie library first opened in 1915 and is named for Charles Sumner, a U.S. Senator from Massachusetts and an outspoken abolitionist. The library has received historic designation from the City of Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Commission and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
