Online tutors through HelpNow
Students in grades K-12 and adult learners can receive free one-on-one live online tutoring assistance every day of the week from 1-11 p.m. (with their library card) in English or in Spanish. Students can also submit their essays on HelpNow and get feedback within one to two days. Find instructions on using HelpNow in English and subtitled in Spanish. For more details, see Tutors online.
Tutors at the library
The K-12 Homework Help program is a free in-person tutoring program offered after school at 17 Hennepin County Library locations. Students can drop in during program hours to work with trained tutors on specific assignments or to build skills over time. For locations and times, see the Tutors at the library schedule.
K-5 students can get free support in developing their reading skills at some library locations. Students and trained volunteer tutors meet weekly one-on-one to work on grade level reading skills.
Let's Read is intended for students:
- In grades K-5
- Reading below grade level
- Able to meet with their tutor every week on the same day and at the same time
Find more information and a list of Let's Read locations.
Sessions are scheduled in advance by appointment only. To schedule a session, please speak with staff at any Let's Read location or email LetsRead@hclib.org.
Library staff have created several instructional videos on using library resources:
-
Online Catalog 101 shows how to perform a basic search, determine the availability of an item, as well as how to get the best results by using various filters on Hennepin County Library’s online catalog.
-
Databases vs. Websites introduces two types of information resources: databases and websites. Learn the difference between the two resources and when it is best to use one instead of the other.
It’s free to get a Hennepin County Library card, and anyone who needs to replace a lost or stolen library card can do so without paying a fee. You can get a new or replacement card in-person at any open library location, or apply online for a library e-card. Apply online for a library e-card.
