Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Launches Data Dashboard for Greater Transparency
July 17, 2024 (Minneapolis) - Hennepin County Sheriff Dawanna Witt is proud to announce the launch of a new jail population dashboard on the agency’s website, hennepinsheriff.org. The purpose of this dashboard is to give the public a daily look at the jail population at the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center. Every day, it is updated with the number of people in custody and includes public information about demographics, arresting agencies, offense levels, and more.
The jail population dashboard can be found at this link.
“I believe that any conversation about public safety must begin with accurate information,” said Sheriff Dawanna Witt. “By launching this data dashboard, we are giving the public access to up-to-date information about the population in our jail. These tools and the jail data dashboard launching today are part of my commitment to openness and transparency.”
The jail dashboard is built on the Microsoft Power BI platform and contains multiple data sets that can be filtered. For example, clicking on the felony section of the charge level count will narrow the data on only those in custody for felonies. These filters are also stackable. For example, if you want to see how many people are in custody for felony offenses that were arrested by the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, click the felony section on the left, then click Hennepin County Sheriff's Office in the middle column. The other data panels will adjust automatically. To view a video walkthrough of the dashboard and its capabilities, click here.
