MinnesotaCare premiums have restarted; watch for monthly bill

MinnesotaCare premiums have restarted. (Premiums had been temporarily waived due to the COVID-19 pandemic.) If you have MinnesotaCare, you must pay your premium on time each month to keep your health insurance. Look for your bill in the mail and make sure to pay it by the due date.

You have several options for paying your MinnesotaCare premium. If you are close to the due date on your bill, the fastest ways to pay are online and by phone.

For more information:

  • Visit the MinnesotaCare premiums page on the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) website
  • Call DHS Health Care Consumer Support at 651-297-3862 or 800-657-3672

Back-to-school dentist and doctor visits are important for kids’ health

Give your kids a healthy start to the school year with visits to the dentist and doctor.

Dental visits

A dental visit is important for overall health and wellbeing. Dental health affects your ability to talk, drink, breathe, and chew food. Good dental health also affects your smile.

During a dental visit, the dentist and dental staff:

  • Examine your child’s tongue, gums, and mouth for decay and disease
  • Examine your child's mouth for potential issues, such as teeth alignment/bite
  • Clean your child’s teeth
  • Check if your child has cavities or needs fillings

Checkups and vaccinations

At a Child & Teen Checkup, the doctor and medical staff will check your child’s height, weight, vision, and hearing, along with their growth and development. They also make sure your child’s vaccinations are up to date. (See this handy chart to see when your child or teen should get vaccines.)

Sports physicals

Children and teens who participate in school sports typically need a sports physical. These exams help ensure that the patient is physically prepared to participate in sports-related activities. For children and teens with chronic conditions like diabetes or asthma, providers give guidance about how best to manage any issues that could occur during play. A sports physical can be completed as part of the Child & Teen Checkup. (The Child & Teen Checkup is more comprehensive than a sports physical.)

What you can do

  • Schedule dentist and Child & Teen Checkup appointments.
    • Dentist: To find a dentist or make a dental appointment, call Delta Dental at 651-348-3233 (866-298-5549), Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
    • Child & Teen Checkup: If you don’t currently have a medical clinic, you can find one in the Hennepin Health provider directory or call Hennepin Health Member Services at 612-596-1036, TTY 711, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • Get the sports physical form from your child’s school for the doctor to fill out at a Child & Teen Checkup visit. If your child plays high school sports, print the Minnesota State High School League Sports Qualifying Physical Exam Form and bring it to the visit. (A sports physical can be completed as part of a Child & Teen Checkup.)
  • Earn rewards. Hennepin Health members can earn $25 Target or Walmart gift cards for completing Child & Teen Checkups and immunizations, as well as annual dental visits by a network dentist. Read more about the Hennepin Health rewards program. (A sports physical alone is not eligible for a gift card. To be eligible for a gift card, the member must complete a Child & Teen Checkup.)
  • Call us. If you need transportation, interpreter services, or have any questions, call Hennepin Health Member Services at 612-596-1036, TTY 711, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Are you due for a cervical cancer screening? You can earn a $50 gift card.

Cervical cancer occurs when cancer cells start growing in the tissues of the cervix. Most cervical cancer is caused by a virus called human papillomavirus (HPV).

Cervical cancer screening is an important part of routine health care for people age 21 and over who have a cervix. Screening means checking for a disease before there are symptoms. Sometimes, cancer is found during cervical screening. Cervical cancer found at an early stage is usually easier to treat. To find out more, visit the Healthwise Knowledgebase.

You can get care using telehealth/ virtual care, urgent care, and nurse line

About telehealth/virtual care

Telehealth/virtual care is a good option to treat many common conditions from the comfort of your home. Telehealth services:

  • Cover medically necessary services and consultations delivered by a licensed health care provider by telephone or video call with the member
  • Support health care delivery and facilitate assessment, diagnosis, consultation, treatment education, and care management of the member

Not all clinics offer telehealth/virtual care or offer it for all conditions. Ask your clinic if they offer telehealth/virtual care.

Learn more about virtual care by visiting the Healthwise Knowledgebase.

About urgent care

Urgent care clinics provide walk-in healthcare for common illness or injuries. No appointment is needed. These clinics can help you with health issues like sprains, minor burns, and ear infections, and urinary problems. They also do X-rays, throat cultures, and other routine health care.

As a Hennepin Health member, you have an open access network for urgent care. That means you can go to the nearest urgent care when you need it. You can find urgent care locations in the Hennepin Health provider directory.

About 24/7 nurse line

As our member, you can get professional medical advice through the HealthConnection 24/7 nurse line. Call 888-859-0202. (If you have a life-threatening situation, call 911 or go to an emergency room.)
