Hennepin County will hold a public meeting on the proposed 2024 budget and property tax levy – commonly called the truth in taxation meeting – on Tuesday, November 28.
The public is invited to ask questions or make a public comment about the county's proposed budget at the meeting.
The proposed 2024 budget is $2.64 billion. The operating portion of this budget totals $2.3 billion, a decrease of $34.0 million dollars from the adjusted 2023 budget. The capital portion totals $343 million, which is $118 million less than the 2023 adjusted capital budget.
Property tax covers approximately 37% of the overall county budget. Federal and state sources, fees and services, and other revenues fund the remainder of the budget.
The Hennepin County Regional Railroad Authority and Hennepin County Housing and Redevelopment Authority will also discuss their budgets and levies at the meeting.

For questions about your property valuation, contact the assessor's office.
Property values are one factor affecting property taxes owed for an individual property. The Assessor's Office assesses your property and estimates the value it would likely sell for on the open market, which is one factor used in determining your property tax. In some municipalities the city assessor, rather than the county, determines property values.
