Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Issues Statement on In-Custody Death
September 26, 2023 (MINNEAPOLIS) - On Tuesday, September 26, 2023, a 36-year-old male in custody at the Hennepin County Jail was found unresponsive in his bed following an apparent medical incident. Medical aid was immediately rendered by staff and responding paramedics and fire department personnel. Medical aid continued during transport to HCMC where he was later pronounced deceased.
“I’d like to extend my heartfelt condolences to the individual’s loved ones,” said Sheriff Witt. “These incidents weigh heavy on all those impacted. I appreciate the consideration and professionalism that was shown by our staff and partners who responded to assist with the incident.”
Further details on name and cause of death will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner. The family has been notified and the incident is under investigation.
