I wanted to let you know about my final Coffee with the Commissioner event next week on Saturday, September 23rd at Hopkins Library. We will meet in the main meeting room, from 9:00am-10:00am. I look forward to seeing you all for the last time in my capacity as Commissioner--I hope you'll join me for this opportunity to connect and to celebrate the ways you’ve shown up as advocates, neighbors, and friends in pursuit of a strong, vibrant community.

Join me for our final Coffee with the Commissioner event Saturday, September 23rd at Hopkins Library. We will meet in the main meeting room, from 9:00am-10:00am. Coffee will be provided—we hope to see you there! 

I'm looking forward to celebrating our accomplishments--your faithful advocacy and brilliant ideas about ways the county can better serve residents have made me a better leader and made our community stronger. Let's get together one last time!

📓 Free Homework Help

Homework help

Hennepin County has resources available to help K-12 students with history, language arts, math, science and more. To discover all the different homework resources, visit our Homework help page.

Online tutors through HelpNow

Students in grades K-12 and adult learners can receive free one-to-one live online tutoring assistance every day of the week from 1-11 p.m. (with their library card) in English or in Spanish. Students can also submit their essays on HelpNow and get feedback within one to two days. Find instructions on using HelpNow in English and subtitled in Spanish. For more details, see Tutors online

Tutors at the library

The K-12 Homework Help program is a free in-person tutoring program offered after school at several Hennepin County Library locations. Students can drop in during program hours to work with trained tutors on specific assignments or to build skills over time. For locations and times, see the Tutors at the library schedule.  

💻 Face-to-face Quarterly Event

Face to Face

Join in on Face to Face, a virtual event for high school students to learn about career paths from professionals of color. This event is free and virtual--join us on September 27, from 4-6pm.

Each professional will present briefly on their career path, profession, and will have a brief Q&A period with students. Along with a guest speaker from community organizations who facilitate workshops surrounding various topics of career readiness.

🔧 Building Material Donation Event

Building Materials

Mark your calendars for Saturday, Sept. 23, 9 a.m.-noon, and bring your unwanted building materials to donate them. The event is located in Brooklyn Park, but this event is open to everyone, whether you are a Brooklyn Park resident or not!

Check the website for accepted materials. Better Futures Minnesota will be onsite to vet all materials for quality and potential resale. Learn more by following the link below:

Hennepin County Sheriff's Office launches new effort to educate on fentanyl dangers

"The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office has announced a new initiative meant to increase awareness around fentanyl.

In a Thursday press conference, Hennepin County Sheriff Dawanna Witt rolled out the Focus on Fentanyl initiative, a series of videos about fentanyl use and public resources surrounding it."

Metropolitan Council, Hennepin County Board of Commissioners agree to $75.3 million in funding for METRO Blue Line Extension Light Rail Project

"Metropolitan Council members and the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners have approved a grant agreement that will provide $75.3 million in county funds for the METRO Blue Line Extension Light Rail Project to keep project work going through the end of 2024."
