Hennepin County intends to hold a special election for the expected vacancy of Commissioner District 6 on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. A special primary is possible and, if needed, will be held Tuesday, March 26, 2024.
This vacancy is the result of the resignation of Commissioner Chris LaTondresse who announced his intention to depart the County Board effective September 21, 2023.
Consistent with Minnesota statute, the special election must be called by the County Auditor within seven days of the vacancy occurring. Candidate filing is expected to open on January 30, 2024.
Hennepin County Commissioner District 6 includes 66 precincts and contains areas of Deephaven, Edina, Excelsior, Greenwood, Hopkins, Long Lake, Minnetonka, Minnetonka Beach, Mound, Northern Eden Prairie, Orono, Shorewood, Spring Park, Tonka Bay, Woodland, and Wayzata.
