Dear Friends and Neighbors,
I hope you've all been enjoying summer thus far. As we know, the region has experienced some excessive heat, and at times, unhealthy air, making county programming— especially housing— even more important as our region experiences more extreme weather cycles year-round. It is, among many other reasons, why I am enthusiastic to report that Hennepin County's Homeless to Housing program recently celebrated a major milestone of helping more than 500 people transition into permanent housing. Watch county coverage of this accomplishment here or below.
In this newsletter you'll find information about county spaces to stay cool at, as well as:
- A pledge to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species
- Information on free backyard composting webinars and workshops, and
- Food shelf at North Point dates
My best,
Join over 700 of your neighbors and take the pledge to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species
Hennepin County is a unique area with 200 lakes, 640 miles of streams, three major rivers, 45,000 acres of wetlands and 50 public water accesses, there are so many opportunities to enjoy being on and around water.
Celebrate all the activities you enjoy in and around Hennepin County lakes while protecting them from aquatic invasive species. These species can harm native fish and plant populations and impact our health, recreation, property values, and the economy.
Whether you enjoy boating, fishing, hiking, kayaking, sailing, swimming wakeboarding, bringing your pet to enjoy the lake, or tending to your aquarium at home, everyone can take steps to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species. Join more than 700 of your neighbors on the free Lake Pledge site and app to learn what you can do to protect Hennepin County lakes.

About 25 percent what we throw away is organic materials like food, napkins and paper towels that could be put to better use as compost.
