The Hennepin County Housing and Redevelopment Authority met on Tuesday and awarded $14.8 million to affordable housing and homeownership opportunities throughout the county.
With this funding, 1,500 affordable housing units will be created, along with 19 different affordable housing projects in the county. Of these units, 43% will be available to those with the lowest income levels.
Hennepin County is investing in affordable housing through several approaches designed to address different needs in our housing ecosystem. The Affordable Housing Incentive Fund (AHIF) Program was created to work with municipalities, other government and nonprofit agencies, private and nonprofit developers, and lenders to encourage the preservation and development of affordable housing opportunities throughout the Hennepin County. We use Supportive Housing Strategy (SHS) to develop long term affordable supportive housing projects, and our homeownership grants are designed to support homeownership opportunities that will maintain long term affordability for very low and low-income families, homeless families, and persons with special needs.
