Help educate Hennepin County residents about Medical Assistance renewals

Since the start of COVID, people who receive Medical Assistance have kept health care coverage regardless of most changes in their lives that previously would have affected their eligibility. This continuous coverage is coming to an end and current enrollees will need to complete a renewal.

People who currently receive Medical Assistance will start the process of renewing their benefits this year, with some starting as soon as July. If your organization interacts with Hennepin County residents, you can provide support, information, and help guide them through this process.

How residents will know it’s time to renew

Each resident has a different renewal date, and enrollees can expect their renewal between July 2023 and June 2024. Renewals will be phased over the course of a year. Enrollees will receive a pre-renewal packet from the Department of Human Services (DHS) in the mail approximately six weeks before their renewal. DHS will mail renewal paperwork and instructions to the most recent address on file one to two months before their renewal is due.

Visit Timeline / Minnesota Department of Human Services (mn.gov) to see the pre-renewal notice and renewal form mailing schedule.

Help residents update their information

Residents will receive their renewal notice and other important information in the mail. It is important we have their current address and contact information on file so they can receive paperwork when it is their time to renew. Here’s how you can help residents update their contact information:
