Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Announces Major Seizure of Drugs and Weapons

February 10, 2023 (Minneapolis) - The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) today announced a significant seizure of drugs and weapons. According to DEA standards, the amount of fentanyl seized is enough to kill tens of thousands of people.

Earlier this week, our Violent Offender Task Force (VOTF) and Emergency Services Unit (ESU) executed a search warrant in the South Uptown area in Minneapolis related to an ongoing weapons and narcotics investigation. As a result of this warrant, our VOTF detectives seized over five pounds of powder fentanyl, over one pound of cocaine, one pound of methamphetamine, 1,295 fentanyl pills and a large press used to package and distribute narcotics.

In addition to the drugs seized, six illegally possessed handguns and one illegally possessed rifle were recovered. The target of the investigation was present at the time the search warrant was executed and was taken into custody without incident. Four other adults were also located inside the residence and were detained but not arrested. The target of the investigation was charged in custody with Felony Firearms violations and three counts of 1st Degree Drug Sale.

“Getting drugs and illegal weapons off the streets is always an accomplishment for public safety. A seizure of this amount of fentanyl though, is really a success for public health as much as it is for public safety. There’s an intersection between public safety and public health that should not be underestimated."

Sheriff Witt will be holding media availability this afternoon at 2:30pm outside Room 6 in Minneapolis City Hall.
