I was honored to moderate a special event featuring US Senator Tina Smith and expert panelists on Monday, February 6 at the Minnesota Valley Chapter of the Izaak Walton League in Bloomington to discuss the Inflation Reduction Act, energy efficiency, and how consumers and the planet will benefit from the IRA.
While the elements of the Inflation Reduction Act are broad, some of the key environmental aspects are robust investments in domestic energy production and manufacturing, and carbon emissions reduction by roughly 40 percent by 2030.
President Biden spoke at length about the IRA during the State of the Union Address yesterday evening, a historic bipartisan bill that will not only clean the environment, but will keep prescription drug costs lower, make the ultra-rich and corporations pay their fair share of taxes, and keep taxes lower for workers.

We hope you can visit the groundbreaking Testify exhibit and event programing over the course of Black History Month at the Hennepin County Library, located in the Cargill Gallery on the second floor of the Minneapolis Central Library.
We are partnering NFL Hall of Famer and former Supreme Court Justice Alan Page, and the Alan Page Foundation, to present an amazing collection of objects, art and artifacts to Hennepin County residents that display the black experience from the 19th century to present, opening the door for fruitful and challenging conversations on race relations and representation.
“Our hope, in creating the exhibit, was that by shining a light on our country’s past we could learn to better understand the racial divide of the present,” said Justice Page. “At the same time, we hoped to illuminate a path to a brighter future, highlighting the strength, persistence, and resilience of the African American community."
Located in the skyway-level Cargill Gallery, the exhibit will be on display through March 29 accompanied by a series of in-person and online programs and events.
It is free and open to the public during library hours.
For more information and a list of events visit the Hennepin County Library website.

National health survey coming to Hennepin County

The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) is coming to Hennepin County. NHANES is a national survey that monitors the health and nutritional status of adults and children across the United States conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Residents will have an invitation-only opportunity to participate in NHANES. Addresses are randomly sampled within the county. By selecting participants this way NHANES data can more accurately represent the U.S. population.
Since 1960, NHANES data has helped address critical health concerns, such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Public health officials, legislators, and physicians use this information to develop health policies, design health programs, and expand the nation’s health knowledge.
Beginning February 9, randomly selected households in the county will be sent one or more letters inviting them to be part of NHANES by completing a brief online questionnaire.
