January 2023

With the new year officially underway, there is already a lot of work that has been done. We swore in our new County Attorney, Sheriff and three retuning Commissioners earlier this month at our first board meeting. Committee chairs were also selected and I am proud to continue to serve as Chair of Public Works and Vice Chair of Health & Human Services.

In January, Hennepin County also signed a Joint Powers Agreement with the City of Maple Grove and Cities of Dayton, Rogers and Champlin to expand services of the Hennepin County 911 and Police Embedded Social Worker Program. This program which has been implemented in 27 cities, offers support, assessments, and connections to community services in an effort to reduce criminal system involvement for individuals experiencing mental health, substance use, or other issues. Thank you to all who make this program a success and its continued expansion throughout the county.

Make sure to follow us on Facebook for more events, news, and community information.

I-94 West Chamber of Commerce Visit

I-94 chamber

Thank you to Greg Anzelc and the I-94 West Chamber for having me at their January meeting at Rush Creek Golf Course to discuss our Elevate Business program and other updates from the county. This was a great opportunity to visit with local small businesses and share resources available at Hennepin County to utilize to grow their business. I look forward to attending more events like these and building relationships within our community.

Accelerating our housing impact in 2022

Housing Impact

2022 was an unprecedented year. We met and surpassed ambitious goals and we doubled down on our strategy to support Hennepin County residents along the housing affordability spectrum.

We set a goal to accelerate the production of affordable housing to recover from the economic impacts of the pandemic, and we met that goal in 2022 by doubling our typical number of funding agreements completed for a total of 22. Housing was a top priority for Hennepin County's pandemic recovery strategy, receiving $46 millionthe largest allocation of federal pandemic recovery funding. We used this unique, one-time opportunity to make permanent improvements that will serve our community for decades to come.

We are so proud of the work we do. Here’s a snapshot of our year—as we look forward to 2023.
