Hello! You are receiving this email because you expressed interest in the Community Recycling Ambassador training.
Volunteer in your community and inspire others to reduce, reuse and recycle as a Hennepin County Community Recycling Ambassador (formerly known as Master Recycler/Composter)! The rebranding of the Master Recycler/Composter program to Community Recycling Ambassadors better reflects Hennepin County’s efforts to reduce racial disparities and serve all residents, in all areas, including waste reduction and recycling.
Community Recycling Ambassadors learn about waste reduction, recycling, organics, and effective communication skills through a six-week course taught by industry experts and community leaders. Once training is complete, Ambassadors put their skills to work by volunteering on projects and activities that minimize waste and provide waste reduction, recycling, and composting education.
Dates: Wednesdays from February 15 through March 22.
Time: 6 to 8 p.m.
Location: This is a hybrid class with the option to join virtually via Zoom or in-person at the Northeast Recreation Center, 1530 Johnson St. NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413.
Before applying, please ensure that you meet the following requirements:
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You live and/or work within Hennepin County
- You are available for all six class sessions
- You can commit to 30 hours of volunteering after the class completes
- You have access to internet and a computer or similar device if you plan to attend class virtually
Participants agree to attend all six class dates and to dedicate approximately one hour per week of independent study outside of class. Any field trips are optional but highly encouraged. There is no fee to join the program.
Participants commit to volunteer 30-hours of public outreach after graduating from the class. When the 30-hour commitment is fulfilled, participants are considered certified Community Recycling Ambassadors and are encouraged to continue their volunteer service.
The application is open now and will close at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, February 5. Applicants will be notified whether they are accepted into the class by the end of the day on Wednesday, February 8.
To apply, complete the Community Recycling Ambassadors application.
Please reach out to kaitlin.keller@hennepin.us if you have any questions. We are so excited to meet our new class of volunteers!
Thank you!
Plastics can be a hassle – they create clutter and can be confusing to recycle – plus they contribute to litter, harm water and wildlife, and have largely unknown health impacts for us. Fortunately, there’s a lot we can do to help create a plastic-free world, from learning more about plastic waste and recycling to making simple swaps to advocating for changes in your community and sharing your story with others.
Hennepin County is encouraging partners and residents to be part of the solution to reduce waste, protect water and wildlife, address climate change, and look after the health of ourselves and future generations.
The Hennepin County Plastic-Free Challenge starts on February 1. Sign up by January 31!
