Hennepin County Sheriff Dawanna Witt Announces Command Staff
January 10, 2023 (Minneapolis) - Last week, Dawanna Witt took office as the 29th Sheriff of Hennepin County. Today, Sheriff Witt officially announced her command staff, who bring over 130 years of combined law enforcement experience to the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).
Chief Deputy Tracey Martin Chief Deputy Tracey Martin is a 26-year veteran of HCSO. She served as the Chief Deputy under the previous administration. Prior to that role, she served as the Major who commanded both the Adult Detention/Court Services Bureau and the Administrative Services Bureau.
Major Patrick Enderlein Major Patrick Enderlein joined HCSO to oversee the new Public Affairs Bureau. He came to HCSO after a long career with the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, where he served as a Commander of the Detention Services Bureau, among other roles. He began his career in law enforcement in the year 2000.
Major Mary Jerde Major Mary Jerde oversees the Adult Detention/Court Services Bureau. Prior this role, she served as a Captain in Court Services Division. In her more than 25 years at HCSO, she has worked in a wide variety of roles in Investigations, Professional Standards, and the Adult Detention areas.
Major Dan Kurtz Major Dan Kurtz oversees the Administrative Services Bureau. He served in this role under the previous administration after joining HCSO in 2019. Prior to this role, he was an attorney for the League of Minnesota Cities and a police officer in both Santa Monica, California and Gilbert, Minnesota.
Major Shane Magnuson Major Shane Magnuson oversees the Public Safety Services Bureau. Prior to this role, he served as a Captain in the Enforcement Services Division and has also worked in several other units over his 23-year HCSO career, including Water Patrol, the Crime Scene Unit, and more. Prior to his time with HCSO, he served in the Army National Guard for seven years.
Major Rick Palaia Major Rick Palaia oversees the Investigations Bureau. He previously served as a Lieutenant in the Criminal Intelligence Division, overseeing programs like ODMAP, which tracks the data related to opioid overdoses in Hennepin County. Prior to this role, he served as a supervisor in the Enforcement Services, and Investigations Divisions.
Chief of Staff Tim Stout Tim Stout will continue in the role as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Sheriff. He has served in this role under the previous two administrations. He joined HCSO in 2012 and previously spent time working in both the Executive and Congressional branches of the federal government.
